Software for mirroring hard drive
Move to the "Disk Clone" option. Then you'll get the interface below. Click the "Clone Entire Disk" to continue. Note: this "Clone Entire Disk" is not a normal one that can only backup your data. It can mirror hard drive to another partition or disk, including Windows, programs, files, and personal settings, etc. Here, all your disk on the computer will be detected and displayed by the software.
Select the disk that you're about to mirror as the source disk, and click "Next" to move to the next step. Make sure which disk you want to mirror your source disk to. Connect it well to the computer, and choose it here. Moreover, you still need to configure your preference settings. It may be caused by cloning failure, wrong partition style, boot mode, boot order, etc.
Therefore, before you start to clone disk to SSD, you need to get something important and make preparations. Only when SSD has enough space to hold everything on the old disk, the cloning can succeed. To make it, please delete useless files with "Disk cleanup" or uninstall the programs that are no longer in use. In addition, you can choose to sync local folder to network drive , cloud storage, or external devices, then delete the original copy on your disk.
Type diskmgmt. Most laptops only have one slot for disk, so you can only connect SSD externally. Set right boot mode after cloning.
If something happens to your laptop, having backups of your precious family photos, important work documents, music library, etc. While those files are safe, you will still need to reinstall the operating system, reload all of programs you use, and reset every preferences to get your system working exactly the way you had it before.
That process is an annoying waste of time that can be avoided by creating a mirror backup. By regularly creating full image backups of your hard drive, you can instantly restore your system — preferences and all. Acronis True Image gives you the flexibility to create a full image backup, to back up specific data files such as partitions, folders, or individual files , or to schedule automatic backups of both types. You get the best of both worlds.
Disk cloning does create an exact replica of your hard drive, but it is not the same as a mirror backup. Mirror imaging software creates a single, compressed file that can be used for backup and disaster recovery purposes.
If something happens to your system, you use the software to restore your system using that image file. You can schedule regular updates to that file to ensure you capture new data or file changes, and you can store multiple image backup files on a single drive. Cloning a disk simply copies the contents of one hard drive to another hard drive. As a result, both the source and the target disk have exactly the same data. This function allows you to transfer all the information including the operating system and installed programs from a small hard disk drive to a large one without having to reinstall and reconfigure all of your software.
Your tasks will run as a pair, one creating a hard disk mirroring image and the next restoring this image into a different hard drive than an original. We will strongly advise to keep a big amount of space on the intermediate file storage containing your mirrors before restoration! The Disaster Recovery utility provides another way for software hard disk mirroring. For details about Disaster Recovery utility, please refer to the User Manual.
